Nigeria has many current issues, from overpopulation, to corruption in their judicial system. The picture above depicts a fire in one of Nigeria's most populous cities, Lagos, in 2008. This fire was caused by a ruptured pipeline, and killed over 100 people. Although this wasn't too current an event, it depicts the problems caused by Lagos's overpopulation, explained further in the video below.
Nigeria's Issue of Urbanization in Lagos
Nigeria's City of Lagos is grossly overcrowded, unsanitary, and very unorganized. The streets and walkways are so congested that it is almost impossible to get from place to place, and diseases are spread more rapidly due to the proximity to people with each other. Abuja, Nigeria's capital, is a very nice, sanitary, organized place to live, but only Nigeria's elite and wealthy have the economic ability to live there. It is hoped that Lagos becomes a more organized city, like London or New York, but for the time being the main concern should be to expand the city to make room for the ginormous population.
Nigeria's Unemployment Problem
Nigeria is having higher unemployment rates due to the drop in the prices of oil, one of Nigeria's main sources of profit. Also, the lack of education in women is contributing to the unemployment rate, because women are lacking in the skills necessary for most jobs, forcing many of them to work at home.
Nigeria has struggled for a very long time with corruption and inaccuracy in their judicial branch. Recently, proof of corruption and illegal activities have been found with regard to many of Nigeria's most influential judges, and $800,000 in cash has been seised from the suspects.
